Several people were injured Monday night in a stampede at a crowded event for Rapper Phora at the famous intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Hollywood.

The rapper was hosting the event at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, drawing a large crowd to the intersection, said Officer Mike Lopez.

Overwhelmed by the large crowd, event security called the police. When Los Angeles police showed up to rapper Phora’s event, people started running away and trample one another.

Security was hired for the event, but the LAPD said the hired hands were unable to handle the crush of people that turned up to see the rapper originally from Anaheim, and police were asked to respond at 9:15 p.m.

The crowd started stampeding over people and injuries occurred as a result of the mayhem.

Eight people — including teenagers and young adults — were taken to hospitals, while two others were evaluated at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Their injuries appeared to be related to an “outdoor crowd surge” and were not life-threatening, the Fire Department said.
